The Irish Tax Institute’s Your Take on Tax competition is back!

TY students across Ireland are invited to take on the role of policymakers and develop their soft skills for a chance to win a cash prize.

Collaborative Project

In groups of up to three, students will investigate and address a challenge from a taxation perspective. They will present their findings to their teacher under four headings:

  • The Challenge – identify and explain their chosen challenge
  • Tax Today – explain how tax currently relates to challenge
  • Your Idea – propose one tax idea that they think could address the challenge
  • The Impact – explain the potential outcomes of their idea

The teacher will submit the entries, on behalf of the students, into the Your Take on Tax competition.

Ní Neart Go Cur Le Chéile: one challenge, your solution

For 2026, we are asking TY students to focus on Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Working in teams of up to three, students should investigate a current challenge affecting EU Member States, how it relates to tax and explore possible solutions to address the challenge.

From climate change and housing to the digital economy and innovation, teams can choose a challenge that interests them. You can find helpful resources on this page including a resource pack for teachers and a podcast episode on Ireland's Presidency.

Entries must be submitted via the portal by the teacher by Friday, 4 December 2026.
