Applications for the Irish Tax Institute Third-Level Scholarship close on Friday, 1 May. Creating a strong application is more than academic results. It should show a genuine interest and commitment to your studies to shape your future career in Tax Advisory.
As you complete your application, consider this advice to help make your application stand out. Successful applicants bring much more than grades to the table so do your best to clearly explain why tax matters to you and how the Scholarship will help you achieve your goals.
Your 300-word Profile
Share what sparked your interest
One of the most important parts of your application is explaining where your interest in tax began. And be honest - don’t try to think of what we’d like to hear.
Perhaps it was something you were taught in school or a news story that caught your eye. Maybe you have always wanted to run your own business and are curious about how tax affects decision-making or have seen a relative apply tax advice. Or possibly a TV programme sparked your interest in how tax affects us all.
Just make sure to let us know and express it clearly in your application.
Show the benefits to you and your family
Reflect on why our Third-Level Scholarship is for you and show that you’ve thought carefully about your choice and your application.
Will the Scholarship allow you to consider applying to your preferred college away from home? Does it help you get a step closer to pursuing a career in Tax Advisory?
Highlight your talents and contributions
Use your profile to highlight your interests, talents and involvement beyond the classroom. Participation in sports teams, groups, part-time work or volunteering all demonstrate commitment, teamwork and time management – skills that are highly valued in professional life.
Don’t underestimate the importance of these experiences – they help paint a fuller picture of who you are.
Be Organised and Plan Ahead
Preparation matters. As the Leaving Cert approaches, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. We recommend gathering the supporting documents as early as possible. Submitting your application on or before 1 May shows organisation and, more importantly, it means one less thing to on your plate as you try to focus on your studies.
So, take the time to reflect, be honest, and talk to teachers and family for guidance.
